Biography

Hannah was born into a family of professional musicians in Berlin in the year 2000. From an early age, she has been in contact with music and especially the recorder, intensively. Growing up, she was experimenting with different instruments like the classical flute and the piano but always tracing the way back to her roots – the recorder. Her secondary education took place at the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Gymnasium in Berlin where she was trained in various musical fields such as ear training, music theory, ensemble paying, improvising and choir singing. During this phase Hannah could participate in competitions and play her first concerts. Since 2020, she is studying Recorder at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Jorge Isaac and Erik Bosgraaf. She is regularly playing concerts in the Netherlands, Germany and elsewhere and creating compositions of her own or with her duo partner Johanna Boehm with whom she founded the Duo ‘Reimagined’.

Ensembles & Projects

Duo Reimagined

Duo ‘Reimagined’ (Hannah Erxleben, Johanna Boehm), is pushing the boundaries of recorder playing and fuses it with the use of live electronics to create a completely new listening experiences. Hannah and Johanna arrange and recompose early music repertoire, making it more accessible to modern audiences or impress with original compositions showing the capabilities and features of the recorder and their skills as players.

Ensemble Durezze

Ensemble Durezze (Durezze =A dissonance leading into another dissonance) brings together three professionally trained musicians—Isabel Negrín López (harpsichord), Alexander Baker (cello, gamba, violone), and Hannah Erxleben (recorders)—to explore the rich world of early 17th-century music. Specializing in the stylus phantasticus, the ensemble navigates through vibrant contrasts of affects, colors, dissonances, and harmonies, creating captivating and expressive performances. Alongside their passion for the music of the 17th century, they also interpret Baroque works with precision and artistry.

Quicksilver Project

In the course of the Quicksilver Project, Hannah experiments with the possibilities of the recorder through the combination of traditional acoustic sound and (live) electronics/music production. This unique pairing amplifies the instrument’s shimmering tones, infusing them with even more brilliance and vibrancy. Featuring both original compositions and bold new arrangements, Quicksilver pushes the boundaries of sound, creating electrifying textures. It offers audiences a fresh and adventurous musical experience, elevating the recorder to new sonic dimensions.
