BLOK Concerts

The BLOK is the recorder department of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. It was founded in the nineteen seventies by Walter van Hauwe and Kees Boeke and comprises  a unique and wide-ranging teaching programme that makes for a thorough, all-round study of the instrument. A great deal of focus is placed on the in-depth study of contemporary literature in addition to the exploration of early music repertoire. Other important aspects are creativity, considerable flexibility and resourcefulness. This is mirrored in the monthly BLOK concerts of the recorder students at the Conservatory. Each concert is a versatile presentation of dedicated recorder repertoire, transcriptions, arrangements or compositions of the students.
