Hannah Erxleben is a German recorder player, composer, producer, and teacher based in Amsterdam. Her artistic work bridges historically informed performance, contemporary music, composition and live electronics. 

Born into a family of professional musicians in Berlin in 2000, Hannah developed a close relationship with music from an early age. She received her early musical education at the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Gymnasium in Berlin, where she studied ear training, music theory, improvisation, chamber music, ensemble performance, and choir singing. During these years she began performing in concerts and competitions, laying the foundation for her professional career.

Hannah received her higher education at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam  with Jorge Isaac, Erik Bosgraaf and Hester Groenleer. She has further developed her artistic profile through lessons and masterclasses with distinguished recorder players and pedagogues including Walter van Hauwe, Dorothee Oberlinger, Kees Boeke, Daniel Brüggen, Stefan Temmingh, among others. In 2026 she graduated with cum laude. 

As a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player, Hannah performs regularly throughout Europe. She has collaborated with ensembles and orchestras including the Philzuid, the Leipziger Symphonieorchester, and the Batzdorfer Hofkapelle. Her performances have taken her to renowned concert venues such as the Konzerthaus Berlin and the Concertgebouw Amsterdam.

While rooted in the historical traditions of Baroque, and early seventeenth-century repertoire, Hannah is equally passionate about exploring the recorder in contemporary contexts. As a composer she creates interdisciplinary projects that combine acoustic instruments with electronics, theatre, immersive audio, and storytelling. The counter of her work lays focus on the expressive possibilities of the recorder in innovative concert formats and thus, present s the instrument in a new light.

Together with recorder player and oboist Johanna Boehm, she founded the Duo Reimagined, dedicated to create reinterpretations and arrangements of early music for two recorder and electronics music. The duo develops original concert programmes, aiming to reach young audiences. Hannah is a member of Earl Grey Ensemble, focusing on baroque repertoire and Tilo Ensemble, focusing on Spanish Renaissance music.

Alongside her performing career, Hannah is a dedicated recorder teacher who enjoys sharing her enthusiasm for music and her instrument with students of all ages and levels. 

Hannah is being supported by the German scholarship foundation Cusanuswerk, which recognizes outstanding academic achievement, artistic excellence, and social engagement.
